Admissions

The admissions policy of Anami Montessori School is in keeping with the educational concepts of Dr. Maria Montessori. We strive to serve a broad range of socioeconomic, religious, cultural and racial groups. We attempt to have an even distribution of ages and genders in each class.
Application Process
- Observation
In keeping with the close partnership between the school and parents, we request that parents considering enrollment of their child first visit one of our classes for an hour-long observation. These appointments begin at 9:00 AM and are for one adult at a time. To schedule an appointment, please call the school’s office at 704-556-0042.
- Application
Please fill out and submit your application, which is available either from the “Downloads” section of the home page or you can click here. You can also request that we send you one by mail.
- Meeting with Parents and Director
The school’s director meets with both of the child’s parents to answer parents’ questions as well as to provide more information on the school and its programs.
- Meeting with Child and Teacher
One of our teachers will meet briefly with your child.
Admissions
General:
If space is available, children are accepted at any time during the school year up to spring break. All applicants are welcome regardless of race, color, religion, disability or national origin.
Primary Program:
Criteria for enrollment include that applicants be both totally toilet trained and at least age three the month of their enrollment. In keeping with our philosophy of serving the best interests of the children, an applicant must be either enrolled in the school before age five, or have had prior Montessori experience. (It is not in a child’s best interest to enter the three-year primary program in the last of these three years.)
Elementary Program:
Nearly all of the students in Anami’s elementary program are graduates of our own Primary Program, with a few transferring from other Montessori schools. Very occasionally other children (with no prior Montessori experience) are considered for acceptance. When they are, these children usually enter at age six or seven.
Financial Aid
Anami Montessori School is committed to maintaining a diverse student body. We firmly believe that economic diversity contributes to a strong and healthy school, and therefore we provide financial aid each year to families of current and prospective Anami Montessori School students. Our financial aid awards are based solely on the financial need of the family and the size of the school’s financial aid budget.
Criteria
- Our first priority is to continue support for families currently receiving assistance.
- The second priority is to provide funds that enable families already enrolled in the school to stay with the school in the event of changing personal finances.
- The third priority is to consider all other requests.
Process
- Parent(s) must complete and submit a copy of the school’s Financial Aid Supplemental Information Form 2009-10. (This is available from the school office in paper form, or is downloadable from the school’s website in the PDF file called “Financing Your Child’s Education.”)
- In addition to the Supplemental Information Form, parents must complete and submit an application with SSS (School and Student Service for Financial Aid—a service provided by the National Association of Independent Schools). Application will need to be made online. Parents will need Anami’s code number 5018 to complete the application.
- Both forms must be filed by February 15, 2009 to be considered as a group by Anami Montessori’s Financial Aid Committee for tuition assistance for the following fall semester. Any forms filed after this date will be considered after other awards have been made.
- Notification of awards will be announced by April 6, 2009. This information will tell you:
• The amount of the grant you have been awarded, or
• That you are eligible for a grant, but are on the waiting list until funds become available, or
• That you do not qualify for an Anami Montessori School grant.
- In order to finalize the award, all families who receive a preliminary financial aid award must, by April 17, 2009:
• Respond in writing, and
• Submit a copy of their 2008 IRS 1040 tax form
After this date, the school considers the offer declined and the funds will be reallocated.
- For each year a family would like financial aid, it must reapply. Awards are based on the relative need of the families that have applied, and on the funds available. While the school will make every effort to maintain financial assistance levels from year to year, conditions may change, so one year’s award is no guarantee of awards in subsequent years.
